After nearly a decade on Wall Street, I set out to pursue a more entrepreneurial and personal approach to investing. Traditional private equity often felt overly intermediated and process-driven, prioritizing deal mechanics over creativity and relationships. That approach is especially limiting for high-growth, founder-led businesses — the very companies that need flexible capital and thoughtful partnership, not rigid frameworks.
I was fortunate to join a young firm led by a seasoned investor who believed deeply in doing things differently. He approached investing with creativity, humility, and genuine respect for entrepreneurs. Much of what shaped WakePoint was learned outside of boardrooms — behind a boat on a lake in Connecticut or off the coast of Montauk — talking through ideas between wakesurf runs and long conversations about business, life, and building something meaningful.
